sorry for the lack of updates, crunch time on Jack the Animato… I mean Giant killer….
got the latest version of 3dsmax :) and back to using hair for the beard, much easier to control now

New idea for the start of the short, it really is going to get a ‘kick’ up the butt ;)

Rig is about 80% done… still on for a character test this weekend I think :)
A rough fur test to see if I can mess the seagull up a bit… might be cool ?

Hey Peeps! started rigging the seagull.. max corrupted my file..lost 2 hours work…. BUT learnt something along the way.. going to make this rig super simple this time round… ie the wing close shape is one blend shape to get there.. with maybe 2 correctives,I think it’s working pretty well… usually the simplest way is best.. and as it’s only me animating this I can take short cuts, rigs tend to be realllly complicated to cater to a large group of artists and different ways of working… I’ll post a character study to test the rig hopefully this weekend :)

Small update, think I’ve finally got a name for the short ! “Reel Sunshine” and the boat is going to be the s.s morning glory :)
coughed this up this morning, using extracted normal maps, render time 1 second, going to try this for the fisherman beard :)
using the same technique for the detail on the rest of the characters too, saves loads on render time with the same kinda look
